Drawing-For-Film (Room G1)

Experimental Animation Workshop

with Guest Artist Lois Siegel

Film Director, Writer, Still Photographer, Educator, Fiddler

Lois Siegel is a freelance film director, writer, and photographer. She also plays fiddle, bodhran and spoons with The Lyon Street Celtic Band, Celtic North, and Sens Unique. Siegel’s film STUNT PEOPLE* featuring the Fournier family, won a 1990 Genie Award: Best Short Documentary from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Her film Baseball Girls is featured at the National Film Board of Canada and is currently available there online.

About The Project :

Discuss animation and hand-drawn techniques for creating movement with your own ideas. Film clips are screened and artist works one-to-one with participants in this workshop to develop personal work and takeaway examples. Workshop is designed to foster imaginative play.

Project is open to all ages daily on Friday and Saturday.

*Please note that as part of the activity, we use permanent color markers. Other options are available, any age or ability can participate.

Sight & Sound – Sound Effects Workshop (Room G4)

with Guest Artist John Citrone

About the project: Artist uses short films by a student filmmaker to demonstrate how sound effects are implemented in filmmaking. Participants use their own voices, bodies and ideas to create sound effects for the films during this super fun workshop for all ages.

Storytelling – Stories, Magic and Origami of Japan (Room MP1)

with Guest Artist Kuniko Yamamoto

About the project: Internationally renowned artist tells traditional folk stories from Japan, connecting how film scriptwriters and storytellers each begin their work through the writing and telling of the story. Artist uses origami and magic to engage participants and enhance their experience during this 30-minute program. Artist’s presentation encourages attendees to use their own ideas to create stories and films. For all ages.

Personal Narratives – “Stunt People” (Room G1)

A Film Screening with Director Lois Siegel

Two personal feature film screenings with Director are scheduled at 3 pm Friday and 1 pm Saturday in Room G1. Participants must pre-register. There is no additional cost to register for this workshop.

About the project: STUNT PEOPLE features four generations of the Fournier family: smashing cars, catching fire and falling off buildings for the fun of it. Their passion is action and adventure. STUNT PEOPLE moves behind the scenes to give an insight as to how stunts are done and why stunt people risk their lives to perform stunts for film.
